Eulogie Iron Vanadium and Titanium Project
Central Queensland Metals (CQM) is a privately owned, Queensland based company focused on the exploration and potential development of the Eulogie magnetite deposit that hosts a large iron, vanadium and titanium resource, located 80 km west of the City of Gladstone.
The Eulogie project hosts a combined indicated and inferred resource reported to JORC 2012 standards of 465 Mt, 14.2% Fe, 3.0% TiO2, 0.10% V with a cut off grade of 10% DTR and an additional JORC 2012 exploration target of 250 to 400 Mt @ 11 to 15% DTR, 12 to 16% Fe, 2.5 to 3.5% TiO2 and 0.08 to 0.12% V.
CQM’s objective is to assess innovative metallurgical processes to produce a high-grade magnetite concentrate, with vanadium and titanium by-products, from its Eulogie project. The aim is to create products suitable for low-carbon iron production and the generation of high-value critical minerals.
With support from the Queensland METS Collaborative Project Fund, CQM has recently completed a 6-hole diamond drilling program to collect fresh vanadiferous titanomagnetite mineralisation. Metallurgical test work is now underway to identify the optimal processing pathway to produce a high-grade magnetite concentrate (+65% Fe) with vanadium and titanium credits.
High-grade magnetite concentrate is a sought-after iron ore feedstock for Direct Reduction Iron (DRI) facilities, enabling the production of low-carbon iron (“Green Iron”) suitable for Electric Arc Furnaces powered by renewable energy to manufacture “Green Steel.”
Vanadium and titanium are critical minerals, essential in the production of high-strength steel and aerospace materials. Additionally, vanadium is a vital component in electrolytes for vanadium redox flow batteries, well-suited for grid-scale renewable energy storage. Demand for both high-grade magnetite for green steelmaking and vanadium for energy storage applications is expected to rise significantly as decarbonisation accelerates globally.
The Eulogie Project is strategically positioned to leverage Queensland and Federal Government initiatives targeting critical minerals development and the transformation of Gladstone into a renewable energy and low-carbon industrial hub. Eulogie is located 3km from existing 275kV transmission lines and its located adjacent to existing and proposed large-scale wind and solar projects, offering the opportunity to power mining and processing operations with renewable energy. The project is also advantageously located near rail and road networks, providing direct access to Gladstone’s industrial and international port facilities.
CQM has partnered with Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners to evaluate the potential to produce a high-grade magnetite iron concentrate with vanadium and ilmenite co-products. Concentrate would then be transported to Gladstone, where value add processing and potential smelting could occur or direct export of the concentrate to international markets.
